A large, early market
India has more than 63 million MSMEs, and recent estimates put AI use among them at around 7–9%. Among small and mid-sized businesses worldwide, interest is far higher — Salesforce's 2025 survey found three in four SMBs experimenting with AI — but using AI inside day-to-day operations is still rare.
The global AI automation market was estimated at $129.9 billion in 2025 and is forecast to exceed $1 trillion by 2033.
The blocker is data, not interest
Research on Indian MSMEs found that 48% struggle with data readiness, and that preparing data takes 10–20% of an AI project's cost. Orders live in WhatsApp threads, stock in a register, payments in Tally and memory.
That is why getting data into shape is a sensible first phase in its own right, not a delay before the real work.
Start where money leaks
The easiest automations to justify are the ones that stop daily losses: missed calls, slow replies to enquiries, and unpaid invoices. Owners feel these every day, and the results are easy to measure.
The less obvious opportunities are local and integration-heavy: WhatsApp orders into Tally, GST reconciliation, GeM tender monitoring and payment follow-ups. They need knowledge of Indian tools and processes, which is why generic automation products tend to skip them.
WhatsApp is the interface
Most owners run their business on WhatsApp, not on dashboards. Since July 2025 the WhatsApp Business Platform charges per message, which suits automations that do real tasks — sending a quote, confirming a booking — rather than open-ended chat.
A daily summary on WhatsApp often does more than a dashboard that nobody opens.
